How much time have you wasted cleaning your house with the usual ‘tools’? How many spots have you skipped with the conventional sweeper, leaving behind undetected lumps of dust? Are you even aware of the countless germs (and bugs) in your house that are resistant to the traditional cleaning methods you’re using?
Yes, that’s a lot of questions! But it’s time you embraced the modern (or smart) cleaning technology. It not only saves on time but is also a threat to household bacteria. With the availability of affordable workhorses today, cleaning your house need not be a daunting task, really. And no, you no longer need to subject yourself to the harsh chemicals present in today’s detergents. That way, you should save yourself a whole load of trouble. Let’s dig in.
What Do You Really Need?
Surprisingly enough, you only need three machines to kick-start your smart cleaning process. Seriously, you’d better take our word: replace your broom with a vacuum cleaner; substitute the harsh detergents with a steam cleaner; and don’t fail to swap your traditional mop with a steam mop! Let’s dig even deeper.
Whether you’re looking to dust a carpeted or bare floor, you couldn’t do it better with a vacuum cleaner. But this workhorse is a pro at sucking all debris it gets in contact with – from pet hair to dust and dirt. And it does a stellar job!
Models with the HEPA filtration technology are even better. These, unlike those with conventional filters or bags, ensure particles of dirt are trapped so they don’t pollute the air. Which especially comes in handy if you’re allergic to dust or are asthmatic.
And don’t worry about getting to the hard-to-reach areas – thanks to the handheld vacuum cleaners. These are pretty compact, and even portable, so you can move easily in the corners and crevices. The machines are also comparatively affordable. Other options you might want to explore include robot, canister, and upright vacuum cleaners. Depending on your needs, do choose wisely.
While the robotic gadgets come with a higher price tag, they give value for the money. Nothing beats the satisfaction of having your home vacuumed while you’re away on vacation, right? That’s what robot cleaners can do, especially if they’re Wi-Fi enabled. Yes, the disc-shaped devices might have a deceiving look, but they are more than a workhorse, really.
Also, note that with vacuum cleaners, you aren’t just limited to the floors. You can vacuum the draperies and upholsteries. Again, the handheld devices should not disappoint here. And, did you know you there are options that double as a vacuum cleaner and steam mop? Yes, call them 2-in-1s if you want.
Why a vacuum cleaner?
At this point, we should be on the same page. But here’s just a summary of the upsides of a vacuum cleaner:
- Makes dusting easier
- Can’t stand dirt it gets in contact with
- Robotic options can clean in your absence
Once you’re done vacuuming, that’s not the end of the road – you need to mop the floor. And the steam mop is the machine to embrace here. Nothing beats the power of steam. Steam is, well, steam! It disinfects unlike no other thing. Which is why you want to incorporate it into your housecleaning activities.
And, no, you don’t have to worry about the type of floor you’re going to clean. A steam mop is multipurpose provided your floor is sealed. The machine is easy to use, too. You only need to fill the tank with water, wait for the thing to heat up, and you’re good to go!
Models with larger tanks are ideal for cleaning larger areas. But you don’t want to run out of water in the middle of the action. Also, depending on how fast you want the floor behind you dry (as you carry on with cleaning), you can opt for a machine designed for that purpose. Not all steam mops leave a dry surface behind them – it can take a bit longer for the floor to dry.
We do prefer machines with microfiber pads as opposed to those with one large mop. The microfiber pads give a better clean, are reusable, and are washer friendly.
Why a steam mop?
There’s no denying a steam mop is a handy cleaning machine, and for all the right reasons:
- It’s efficient
- It kills germs and bugs
- It frees you from detergents that boast harsh chemicals
Other steam cleaners
A steam mop is just one of the many types of steam cleaners available today. We described it above in detail as it’s an essential machine – it does a key role (mop) once you’re done vacuuming. Other options you might want to explore include the vapor, cylinder, and handheld steam cleaners. While some of these are multipurpose, others have got specific uses.
For instance, the handheld machine is ideal for cleaning smaller areas, especially the hard-to-reach areas. That’s because it’s compact and portable. You can well use it to clean your garments, too, considering its light-duty nature. If, on the other hand, you’re handling large-scale cleaning, the cylinder (cistern) cleaner should not disappoint.
When it comes to versatility, the vapor steam cleaner is your best friend. It features a plethora of attachments that can serve different areas of the house. That’s not all, but the thing cleans with dry vapor, giving a ‘dry’ clean. Yes, no more excessive moisture lingering around in the already cleaned spots. A notable caveat, though, is that the gadget is costlier.
Why a steam cleaner?
A steam cleaner is a perfect disinfectant – like we’ve already seen with the steam mop. It cleans with high-pressure steam, killing germs and parasites instantly. Other pluses are:
- It’s chemical-free
- It saves on time as it’s automated
